The national standard for stainless steel powder used in additive manufacturing is about to be implemented, with Liaoning Guanda participating in its drafting.

The standard ‌GB/T 46187—2025 Additive manufacturing — Materials — Stainless steel powder‌ has been jointly released** by the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) and the Standardization Administration of China (SAC) on August 29, 2025. This standard will be implemented as of March 1, 2026.

What types of stainless steel powder are included in the national standard for additive manufacturing?‌

The standard specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation, storage, accompanying documentation, and order content for ‌five types of stainless steel powder‌ used in additive manufacturing.

It is applicable to additive manufacturing processes including ‌laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), electron beam powder bed fusion (EB-PBF), and laser-directed energy deposition (L-DED)‌.
